DeLaval Japan signs landmark partnership with Rakuno Gakuen University

DeLaval has signed its first comprehensive partnership agreement with a Japanese university.

On March 14th, 2025, DeLaval Japan formalised its partnership with Rakuno Gakuen University in Ebetsu, Hokkaido. This marks the first agreement of its kind in the country and underscores DeLaval’s commitment to advancing dairy farming in the region.

The agreement builds on a relationship that began in 2022, following a visit from DeLaval and the former Swedish Ambassador to Japan, Pereric Högberg. Since then, DeLaval and the university have worked closely together, and this formal partnership marks a natural progression of that collaboration. This is particularly significant, as Rakuno Gakuen is recognised as a leading institution in developing the future leaders of the dairy industry. Many of its graduates – some of whom are also DeLaval customers – have gone on to make notable contributions to the sector.

Shogo Nakano, Vice President Market Area Japan, DeLaval, says: “We are extremely pleased to have reached this comprehensive partnership agreement with Rakuno Gakuen University. For many years, DeLaval has contributed to resolving the problems faced by dairy farmers around the world through providing our innovative products and services.  Through this partnership agreement, we would like to support the development of young talent that will lead the dairy industry in the future by our experiences and global network.  We believe that this initiative will greatly contribute to the sustainable development of Japan’s dairy industry.”

The agreement focuses on four key areas:

• Education and human resource development, research, and development

• Social contribution and international exchange

• Utilisation of facilities and equipment

• Other areas for cooperation

The partnership will be renewed every three years, with various activities planned to support the dairy industry. It also aims to strengthen ties between industry, academia, and government in Hokkaido, Japan’s main milk production region, fostering continued progress for both DeLaval and the wider dairy sector.
